Mission/Goals/Charter

The Membership Committee is one of six standing committees of the Parish
Its chairs are members of the CoPM
It works in cooperation with the Minister and the CoPM: to foster an atmosphere of mutual trust and support within our Parish community; to create a welcoming and positive experience for members, friends and newcomers; and to increase awareness of the principles and programs of the UUA.
The Committee meets monthly

Specific Responsibilities

Organize greeting teams so that newcomers are greeted appropriately each Sunday as they enter the Meeting House. Greeters will introduce newcomers to members during coffee hour, and will answer questions/provide brochures.
Maintain sign-up sheets for nametags and newsletters; make name tags for everyone; maintain Pew Cards
See that all congregational and Denominational publications relating to membership are prominently displayed in the Meeting and Parish Houses. Update annually all brochures on First Parish, its history, outreach and religious education programs.
Send Newcomer Packets to all who request them
Within a week of visiting for the first time, newcomers should be telephoned by someone on the Membership Committee. Reports will be forwarded to the Minister for a personalized "welcome" note.
Working with the minister, arrange New UU classes as well as membership ceremonies (e.g. New Member Sundays) twice a year
Organize various social activities, particularly Fall & Spring Circle Dinners, and 1-3 dances and concerts each year. Work with the Publicity Committee to publicize same.
Maintain contact with friends and members who come irregularly, referring those in need to appropriate committees/staff.
Provide semi-annual reports on membership to the Parish Committee, including names of visitors, new members, and those being dropped. Update the Membership roll for UUA reporting & billing purposes

Working with the Minister, we have revised the "Welcome to First Parish" brochure, and we will be updating other brochures periodically
