Religious Education at First Parish
First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Cohasset offers a variety of religious education experiences for children and youth from pre-kindergarten through high school that firmly roots youngsters in the faith tradition of Unitarian Universalism. [JCB1]
Pre-Kindergarten through 6 th grade children engage in Spirit Play , an interactive curriculum that uses storytelling to teach youth about the world's religious traditions.
Grades 7 - 8 participate in Our Whole Lives (OWL), a critically acclaimed human sexuality education curriculum developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. Students from First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Cohasset, First Parish/Old Ship of Hingham and Second Parish Unitarian Universalist of Hingham meet weekly with trained OWL facilitators to learn a comprehensive approach to sexuality and relationships.
Grades 9 - 12 are invited to participate in First Parish UU's Senior High Youth Group. High school students meet weekly to build a closely knit caring community and to get involved in a number of community outreach initiatives and social justice activities.

Welcome to the year ahead ~ One of my favorite things about being Unitarian-Universalist is what we offer our children and youth through xperiences that stir heart, mind, body, and spirit. This year at First Parish we have an abundance of such offerings: a splendid new Interim Director of Religious Education in Jim FitzGerald, a hardworking and successful Interim DRE Search Committee who found him, a committed and enthusiastic RE Committee, teachers new and seasoned for our youngsters pre-K and up, an additional grade level engaged in "Spirit Play," an OWL (Our Whole Lives) program for our 7 th and 8 th graders that is collaborative with First Parish/Old Ship and Second Parish UU in Hingham, and a Senior High Youth Group whose leaders and participants never cease to inspire us!
Once a month, we blend all generations for the first segment of our Sunday worship service in the Meeting House. During those times, we seek to be inclusive, innovative, and imaginative as we stretch our spirits to embrace all who are a part of this faith community we know as First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Cohasset.
Thank you to all who are leading us in this venture-to Jim, to our RE Committee, to our dedicated teachers, and to each and every child and youth. Thank you to all who make it happen, through your enthusiasm and your pledges of time and funds.
Come along, join us on the journey of this year through religious education that is spiritually alive. Let's affirm together the promise and presence of each and every child among us and the child within us no matter what our age!
With love and gratitude for each of you Jan
