Trips to Rosie’s Place have been scheduled

First Parish has a long history of participating in the work of Rosie’s Place. Volunteers see visual evidence of that in the JoAnne Chittick paintings having in Rosie’s dining room. We have scheduled three dates for trips to Rosie’s in the coming church year. They are 11/28/18/for lunch from 10:30am to 1:30pm (this is the Wednesday AFTER Thanksgiving) 1/30/19 for dinner 4pm to 7:30pm (this is the last Wednesday of the month when any of the guests with January birthdays are celebrated with a cake and gifts.) and 3/20/19 dinner 4pm to 7:30pm.
All members of First Parish are invited to participate by signing up and showing up for any or all of the dates. Sign up by calling or emailing the church office, which will keep a tally. We like to bring 12-15 volunteers and you can invite non-members to join as well.
Volunteers must be 12 and older and kids 12-15 need an adult chaperone. Rosie’s serves over 100,000 healthy and delicious meals a year, and depends on a network of catering groups to provide a meal to everyone in need. Catering groups make a $350 donation to underwrite food costs. Our FP Outreach Committee underwrites this cost but volunteers support the effort with a suggested, voluntary contribution of around $30 each, $40 per couple or $50 per family via a check made out to First Parish, which replenishes the outreach funds. We carpool to Rosie’s and prepare and serve that meal to approximately 150 women in the dining room. Rosie’s Place staff designs the menu, purchases needed ingredients and guides our group through the meal preparation. All we have to do is show up with a willingness to pitch in.
