First Parish to Host Cohasset’s 20th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast

The 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., pancake breakfast will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 9-11 a.m. This year the annual event will take place at the Parish House of First Parish in Cohasset, 23 N. Main St., Cohasset, MA.

De’Shawn Washington, winner of the 2024 Massachusetts Teacher of Year award, will be the keynote speaker. Mr. Washington, who teaches grade four in the Lexington, Mass., public schools, is the first Black male educator to receive this honor.

Mr. Washington will speak on the topic of how Dr. King’s message affects his day-to-day work as an educator.

His page on the National Teacher of the Year website outlines his professional qualifications. Mr. Washington is also active outside his job, volunteering in his church, and as a Big Brother.

De’Shawn Washington’s keynote address will be preceded by a pancake breakfast. The entire proceeds of the breakfast will go to the charity chosen by Mr. Washington, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts. Price of the breakfast is $5 per person, maximum of $15 per family; no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Additional freewill contributions to Mr. Washington’s charity of choice will also be gratefully received.

Child care will be available, offered by a paid professional child care provider assisted by adult volunteers.

This event is co-sponsored by the Cohasset Diversity Committee and the Cohasset Clergy Association.
