Half-time Director of Religious Education (DRE)
First Parish in Cohasset is a historic Unitarian Universalist congregation, 45 minutes south of Boston in the scenic town of Cohasset. We are a small town congregation located in the heart of the town Common. First Parish in Cohasset strives to be welcoming to people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and stages of life. Goal:
To welcome children, youth, and their families to First Parish in Cohasset, and make them feel at home. To provide a Unitarian Universalist experience for young people each week.
Salary and time frame:
20 hours per week for 46 weeks per year (mid-August through June). Salary $20,000 – $22,000 per year depending upon the candidates qualifications and experience (meets UUA salary guidelines for Geo Index 4, Size A). FLSA exempt position.
Accountability:
The DRE reports to, and is evaluated by, the minister. Ultimately, the DRE is responsible to the congregation’s Parish Committee.
A DRE is a mandated reporter under state law, and the DRE is responsible for implementing child protection policies and other safety policies. Full reference checks are required of all employees working with minors, including a CORI background check and/or other criminal background checks.
Responsibilities:
A full job description is available upon request. Sunday responsibilities from September through June include supervision and implementation of the children’s Religious Education program, teaching class on Sunday and overseeing volunteer teachers and paid child care providers. Depending on the interest of the DRE, Sunday morning responsibilities may also include participating in the first twenty minutes of worship. (If the DRE would like, s/he may be invited to preach once or twice a year.) Other responsibilities: Attend monthly meetings of the Religious Education Committee and meetings of the Parish Committee if/when requested. Attend regular meetings with the minister.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should enjoy spending time with children and youth.
Candidates should have strong organizational skills, and be comfortable overseeing volunteers.
Candidates should have knowledge of what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist.
On-the-job training will be provided by the minister.
