Unitarian Universalists believe that every child brings new life and new hope into the world. In a child dedication, we welcome the child into the world and into our religious community by formally giving them their name. We dedicate the child to the highest traditions of life. As a congregation, we promise to support the family of the child as the child grows up. And then together we rededicate ourselves to creating a more just world in which all children may thrive.

At First Parish, child dedications are incorporated into our regular Sunday service. The child is presented to the congregation and the congregation welcomes the child. During the service, the entire congregation voices its support for the new child and their family.

On Rev. Dan Harper’s website, you can read a child dedication as he would lead it.
