Our church community
We’re a mix of thinkers, dreamers, and doers who believe in kindness, justice, and a good conversation. We celebrate our differences of faith, background, identity and stand together for love, peace, and a fair shake for everyone.

Every neighbor is part of the family

Sunday service
Social Hour
Right after worship, head across the street to the Parish House for our relaxed Social Hour. It’s the perfect time to meet someone new, catch up with friends, or settle in a chair and have a good conversation.
Staying Connected
Unitarian Universalists aren’t just Sunday people, we’re a community that thrives on curiosity, openness, and the joy of being together.

Sing, ring, or listen
Everyone is invited for music + choir
Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love to listen, making music together is one of our greatest joys.
Music & Song Circles
Song Circle (1st Sundays, 11:30–12 pm, Atkinson Room): Informal sing-alongs for all ages, no musical chops required!
Ukulele Circle (2nd & 4th Mondays, 7–8:30 pm, Trueblood Hall): Strum along (or just listen) and borrow a loaner uke if you need one.

Working & Playing Together
Creating and celebrating, something bigger than ourselves.
LOBSTER ROLL SALE
Father’s Day weekend means lobster rolls! Hundreds of volunteers unite to make, package, and sell over 1,000 lobster rolls at the Cohasset Arts Festival. It’s our largest fundraiser and a cherished community tradition.
GARDEN WORK DAYS
Twice a year, we roll up our sleeves and tend the Parish House gardens. Between weeding and pruning, you’ll find plenty of friendly faces and fun conversations growing alongside the flowers.
VILLAGE FAIR
Each December, First Parish brings crafts for kids, See’s Candy sales, gift-basket raffles and even surprise guests like a life-sized Gingerbread Person. Join us for a holiday celebration that lights up the whole village.
LENTEN MANUAL
Every spring, writers and artists from nine-year-olds to lifelong members collaborate on reflections, poems, and artwork around a shared theme. The result? A treasured keepsake that captures the heart of our community.

care circle
When life throws curveballs, we’re here to catch you
Illness, loss, or a surprise need, no one should go it alone. Our Care Circle coordinates rides, meals, visits, and cards, month by month, led by volunteers who believe in the power of small acts of kindness. If you or someone you know could use a hand (or a hug), reach out to the current volunteer listed in our weekly Order of Service or e-Blast.

Social Action Committee
Service & Outreach
Our faith in action locally, nationally, globally.
From clothing exchanges to Habitat for Humanity builds, this committee champions hands-on service. Recent projects include:
Clothing Exchange: Swap gently used kids’ clothes, good for your wallet, great for the planet.
Habitat for Humanity: We underwrite volunteer fees so members 21 & under can join the build.

Welcoming Congregation
Displaying the Progress Pride Flag signals our commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion. First Parish was an early UU leader in championing equal marriage rights and continues to celebrate diversity in every form.

Urban Ministry & UU Mass Action
We’re a founding member of the UU Urban Ministry in Boston, supporting education, shelter, and enrichment programs. Members also engage with UU Mass Action, our statewide advocacy network.

Outreach Fund & Committee
Seeded by a gift from Warner Bros. in 1986, our Outreach Fund and plate collections fuel grants to charities chosen by the congregation, both local families and international efforts like Common Hope in Guatemala.

Rosie’s Place & Angel Tree
Since 1974, we’ve supported Rosie’s Place, America’s first women’s shelter, and run an annual Angel Tree, gifting hundreds of dollars’ worth of holiday presents to South Shore families in need.

Young Hearts,
Helping Hands
Children and teens making a difference
Trail Maintenance: For 20+ years, our youth have kept the Great Brewster Trail shipshape.
Farm & Shelter Volunteering: From Holly Hill Farm to the Scituate Animal Shelter, service is part of growing up UU.
Ecojustice Camp: A week-long, non-religious day camp where campers learn outdoor skills and environmental stewardship, rooted in our UU values.
