Unitarian Universalists share a common set of core values and an intellectual openness and curiosity that seems to draw us together. We enjoy each other’s company. Frequently we meet each other while working on some church project or another, but just as frequently we get together just for fun. And as an open and friendly community, we welcome and encourage anyone from the community to join us
First Parish sponsors a series of events throughout the year that offer a chance to just hang out together. The “Fridays at First Parish” series offers a series of family-oriented pizza and entertainment nights throughout the year. Other one-off events might include a BYOB bluegrass concert in Trueblood Hall or an antique instrument recital in the meeting house.
Wednesday Night Vespers
Sometimes a quiet time together is what we crave. Reverend McKetchnie introduced Wednesday Vespers during the hectic holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They provide an opportunity to leave the noise of the world outside and come into a darkened, candlelit sanctuary for meditation. Given the popularity of these evenings, they are sure to become a tradition at First Parish.
Circle Dinners are a traditional way of getting to know each other better. Generally, eight to ten members join for a pot luck dinner at one person’s home. Everyone brings a part of the meal and since we all have our favorite “special event recipes”, the food is always good. Perhaps more importantly, the conversation is always stimulating.
Sometimes the social connection at First Parish just result in simple friendship, a casual, comfortable closeness that enriches our lives like few other things can.
