In addition to its religious education programs, First Parish in Cohasset owns and operates the Carriage House Nursery School (CHNS) in our historic Parish House located on Cohasset Common.

CHNS is a private, non-profit, non-religious school dedicated to meeting the needs of younger children from 2 years to 5 years of age. It was started in 1978, in response to the pressing need for quality early education for the children of the local area. Today almost 100 children are enrolled in various sessions.

CHNS is inspected and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and is proud to be one of the first preschools in the area to earn accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). (Unitarian Universalist educator Abigail Adams Eliot was one of the founders of NAEYC.)

Eleven teachers from Cohasset and surrounding communities work under the leadership of Director Lynne Miner to provide a safe, welcoming, and innovative environment for learning and growth. Carriage House Nursery School has become a leader in outdoor education for young children, with the addition of an outdoor classroom.
