Florida disaster relief donations

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has just created a disaster relief fund for Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations and UU-related nonprofits. Link to give to the fund.

Rev. Lisa Presley writes: “Friends, as chair of the UUA’s Disaster Relief Fund committee, we are starting to receive grant requests from Florida congregations for the devastation that Hurricane Ian has wrought. We heard that the preliminary damages to one church is at least $20k; members had homes washed away and their property gone. They estimate every member has sustained damage, and that’s just one area. There will be more devastation throughout the weekend, I’m sure.”

This is the UUA’s ongoing disaster relief fund. Having this permanent fund in place allows the UUA to accept donations while a disaster is still unfolding (like now).

As we learn about other relief efforts, we’ll post info on this website. There is a UU congregation in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and presumably they will be in touch with the Disaster Relief Fund when they’re able. The First Parish Outreach Committee is also taking action. We’ll have more information about giving opportunities at Sunday’s service.
