Travel Opportunity: UU Pilgrimage & Volunteering in Cluj, Transylvania / Romania

   Map showing Transylvania

Peter Sexton, a long-time friend of First Parish in Cohasset, is organizing a trip to Cluj, in Transylvania, Romania, in the heart of Transylvanian Unitarianism. The purpose of the trip is two-fold.

First, those on the trip will work on building affordable housing through the Fuller Center for Housing in Cluj (Kolozsvár). The Fuller Center has twenty years of experience building decent, affordable homes in partnership with people who are unable to secure adequate housing by conventional means.

Second, there will be plenty of opportunities to visit historic Unitarian sites and meet Transylvanian Unitarians. Historic sites include: three historic Unitarian churches in Kolozsvár, all of which are older than Unitarianism in North America; House of Religious Freedom, formerly the Unitarian bishop’s residence, now a museum; the site of the Edict of Torda.

Peter Sexton has been on four UU pilgrimages to Transylvania, and has worked with the Fuller Center a number of times. He has many Unitarian contacts in Transylvania, and is an experienced trip organizer. He would like to put together a group of 8 or more people to make a trip in June. The trip will include June 3-10, the date of the Fuller Center volunteer opportunity. Trip participants will decide together on dates to tour UU historic sites.

If you are interested in participating in this trip, please email Peter care of the administrator of First Parish in Cohasset <admin@firstparishcohasset.org>
